Betty Aten, discovered yoga after a long career in public education as a classroom teacher and principal.
As a relative late-comer to yoga, herself, she specializes in working with older adults. Betty studied directly with Dr. Loren Fishman, co-author of Yoga for Osteoporosis to become the first Yoga for Osteoporosis-certified teacher in Northern California. Betty is also certified to teach senior yoga through Silver Age Yoga. In addition to her scheduled classes, Betty offers private and semi-private lessons on a limited basis.
Julie Eden, is an expressive arts practitioner (Halprin Practitioner), improvisational movement artist, yoga instructor, and educator.
Her teaching style is often described as clear, calming and centering, and emphasizes the richness of moment-to-moment awareness. Her students describe her as “intuitive yet grounded,” “compassionate and fully engaged.”
Julie is a graduate of certification programs in teaching the body and various movement disciplines: in Iyengar-based yoga from the Advanced Studies Program at the Yoga Room in Berkeley; in Yoga and Jewish Spirituality and in Dance Midrash from the Elat Chayyim Center for Jewish Spirituality; and in Movement-based Expressive Arts Education and Therapy from Tamalpa Institute.
Julie Emden, RYT-500, directs the Embodied Jewish Learning Initiative in San Francisco. A graduate of five fellowship and teaching certification programs related to her work as a Jewish educator, Iyengar-based yoga instructor and movement/expressive artist, Julie has nineteen years of experience guiding others in exploring Jewish wisdom, text and practices via the body in a variety of settings. Embodied Jewish Learning offers classes, workshops, on-line learning, retreats, teacher trainings, and strategic consultation and guidance for Jewish Wellness Initiatives throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Greacian Goeke, After nearly 30 years of practice, Greacian finds an ever-deepening sanctuary in the movements of T’ai Chi, embodying the principle of Stillness in Motion.
She has studied with Martin Inn at Inner Research Institute in San Francisco since 1989 and was certified to teach the Form, Sword, Push Hands and San Shou in 2000. She has also taken master classes with Ben Lo and Maggie Newman, both students of Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing, who brought his Yang Family Style Short Form to New York from Taiwan in the 1970’s. It is now one of the most practiced forms worldwide.
In addition to T’ai Chi, Greacian teaches creative movement and music to children at Mills College Children’s School and King Child Development Center in Berkeley, and to older adults at the Albany Senior Center, home of her elder dance ensemble, Impromptu No Tutu. T’ai Chi is the basis of all her movement teaching, emphasizing relaxation, dynamic balance, leg strength and connecting to the center through breath. She is excited to share her treasured practice at the welcoming 4th Street Yoga Studio.
Jonothon Gross, teaches a thoughtful, innovative, and energetic class designed in part to develop core strength.
Yoga poses are presented in a series of slowly flowing sequences held together by a steady focus on breath and movement. Using core tone, sequences of postures are presented and held; these postures offer an opportunity to notice areas of strength and weakness. While the class has challenging moments, it is suitable for anyone having some experience with yoga, and a desire to bolster their strength, stamina, and flexibility. Those who have enjoyed being athletic in other arenas will notice a familiarity with gradually building skills and self-knowledge. All students are encouraged to learn more about the idiosyncrasies of their bodies and develop a yoga practice that is safe and engaging.

Mitch Hall began practicing Yoga in 1968, meditation in 1970, and Tai Chi and Qi Gong in 1971.
Since then, he has continued exploring the integral cultivation of wellness, healing, and peace through mind-body practices from diverse spiritual traditions as well as from contemporary somatic therapies. As a holistic wellness counselor, he guides clients in yoga-based, mindful breathing, movement, and meditation, and uses sound healing. The Indian Board of Alternative Medicines, located in Kolkata, India, awarded him a PhD(h.c.) in Alternative Medicines. He teaches in a yoga-teacher-training program and has trained yoga therapists. Ariel Roland Holst, RYT 500, stepped in to her first yoga class twenty-three years ago while pregnant with her first son.

Jeremy Daniel Marshman, Jeremy teaches Hatha, Restorative and Kundalini Yoga in therapeutic and studio settings.
He is interested the synergy and synthesis of relaxation, somatic emotional integration and yoga principles in service of authentic expression. His classes reflect this interest and practice as well as his love of music and the whimsical. His aim is for guided action and presence to hold a steady center for the practice so that experience may unfold for each individual.
Jeremy will be offering Kundalini Yoga classes starting on Fri. Aug. 16th. The class time will meet 4:00 – 5:15pm. If you choose to linger after, or arrive for Kirtan For Jam will be held from 5:30- 6:45pm. This class combines a love of chant and spirited music with the form of the traditional folk jam. Attendees play and/or sing along and may also bring songs/chants of their own to lead.
Scotty McCaulley, is a graduate of the Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies Program. He has been teaching Iyengar-style yoga for the past 10 years.
Scotty was a late-comer to the practice of yoga and hence offers classes that are suited for both beginning through intermediate level students regardless of age. His intention is to teach classes which are available and welcoming to everyone. Scotty’s teaching motto has become: IF I CAN DO IT THEN YOU CAN DO IT TOO.
I didn’t walk out of my first yoga class – I glided. I still have vivid sense memories of that first post-yoga class walk – sorry, glide home.
Everything about me and my surroundings had transformed into substances much lighter, airier and fresher than before. The only way to describe how I felt is to say that I experienced a moment in time utterly without burdens – or even gravity.
Many years later I became a fitness specialist and yoga teacher but it wasn’t until I experienced TriYoga that my meditation practice, spiritual seeking, and love of yoga found a home. After 20 years of teaching there is still nothing I would rather be doing than helping people discover their own glide home. Namaste.
Sybil Meyer, is a licensed psychotherapist (LMFT) and expressive arts therapist. She has studied, performed and taught various disciplines of dance and movement arts for most of her life.
As a therapist, she has brought the healing and expressive aspects of those disciplines to clients and students in colleges, private studios, and clinical settings.
Practicing Motion Theater since 2006 has strengthened her belief in the value and necessity of creative self expression. She sees the Motion art form as a way of addressing the profound need people have to be seen, heard, and witnessed in their efforts to make sense of our increasingly chaotic world; and to articulate their personal stories.
Barbara Papini, has taught yoga for 30 years, was on The Yoga Room Advanced Studies staff for 12 years and has mentored many beginning teachers during this time.
She studied with Geeta Iyengar in Pune, India. Donald Moyer is her primary teacher.
She began teaching at Fourth Street Yoga when it first opened, over 20 years ago. Barbara offers seasonal retreats, workshops and personal practice guidance on request.
Sally Pugh, is a Certified Ananda Yoga Teacher/ Registered Yoga Teacher, Yoga Alliance.
I have been teaching yoga in the Bay Area for the past 20 years and have extensive experience working with people of all sizes. My classes, workshops and retreats offer a safe, comfortable and grounded space for people of all sizes to connect and integrate body, mind and spirit through yoga, meditation and breath awareness. I continue to learn from my students, from personal practice and exploration and from study.
I am guided by the wisdom of the body, the power of the heart, and the joy of discovery. One of my great privileges as a teacher is to introduce beginners to the practice of yoga.

Anna Rich, believes yoga is for everyone, and loves helping her students discover the deep wisdom of their bodies.
Anna first came to yoga after experiencing pain from working long hours at the computer, and was thrilled to discover that yoga not only helped relieve her physical discomfort, but also introduced her to a whole new way of relating to the world and to her body. She quickly found that yoga offered a much needed respite from our fast paced and often stressful culture, a way to unwind both the body and the mind. Based on this insight, Anna’s classes now focus on developing body and breath awareness, building strength and flexibility, and finding stillness in the midst of our busy lives.
Anna is a graduate of the Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies Program. She also has a special interest in restorative yoga and has trained with Judith Hanson Lasater to become a certified Relax & Renew® Trainer.
Beth Greenfield Rodgers
Beth Greenfield Rodgers, has been practicing yoga since 1982 and began teaching in 1988 while completing her Advanced Yoga Studies at The Yoga Room in Berkeley, CA.
Beth studied and apprenticed with Rodney Yee for many years, and was one of his first students to become a teacher. Beth helped found the 4th Street Yoga studio with her yoga partners Clare Finn and Barbara Voinar. Beth studied Yoga in Balance with Jean Couch www.balancecenter.com while she was healing a back injury.
Beth’s style of teaching blends precision of body alignment from her Iyengar training with gentle relaxation and skeletal re-alignment from her Yoga in Balance work. Beth’s classes are suited for back and joint care, for beginners and all levels. Beth guides her students carefully through the subtle nuances of a pose. Her classes are straightforward and humble. All are welcome.
Deborah Saliby, is a long time yoga practitioner and certified Iyengar yoga teacher with 34 years of teaching experience. She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco and teaches in the East Bay.

Barbara Steiber, views yoga as a system of body movements that will help sustain and support the well-being of a person’s health and fitness, over the many years of one’s life.
She has been a yoga practitioner for over 25 years, and teaching since 1996. She is a graduate of the Yoga Room in Berkeley. She is also a graduate of the School of Body Mind Centering (BMC), a 500-hour yoga training program of Embodied Anatomy and Yoga, and Developmental Movement and Yoga, and is a BMC certified Somatic Movement Educator.
She is a licensed therapeutic massage practitioner. Barbara’s classes focus on a sequence of asanas/poses to maximize the body’s natural ease and aliveness. She works with students to bring about a sense of enjoyment and balance, as well as a deepening of the connection between the body and mind.
Don Tuttle, has enjoyed a regular yoga practice since 1981. He has taught yoga since 1983 in San Francisco and Berkeley at the Yoga Room, the Berkeley Yoga Center, 4th Street Yoga and the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco as a teacher training faculty member.
He has studied several times in India with B.K.S., Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. Classes center on learning useful foundation principals for the yoga asanas. Students learn core poses and sequences and learn to develop their personal practice.
Don is currently in the third year of a 3-year, 1600 hour Alexander Teacher training program. He has been co-teaching Alexander Technique workshops in Berkeley for the last year.
Barbara Voinar, IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist, teaches with extraordinary depth and expertise, integrating her 40 years of study and practice in established hatha yoga traditions.
Her spiritual practices of Vipassana and Tibetan Buddhism have been guided by Sharon Salzberg and Rinpoche Anam Thubten. Her love of chanting and meditation, first kindled while living in Swami Muktananda’s Siddha Yoga ashram, inspired her to collaborate with many gifted teachers bringing yoga and chanting together. Her primary home for teaching is at 4th St. Yoga studio in Berkeley, CA which she founded in 1993. In addition, she teaches yoga as a path of healing in the substance abuse recovery community and works therapeutically with MS, and ALS, Stroke and Cancer yogis. She has taught in prisons, specialized in pre-natal yoga, and supported programs for vulnerable youth.
Nina Wise, is known for her provocative and original performance works. Her pieces have garnered seven Bay Area Critics’ Circle Awards, and she has received, among other prestigious honors, three National Endowment for the Arts fellowships.
Her written pieces have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies.
